Silent Epidemic

A report of the Surgeon General uncovered an alarming discovery of dental and oral disease among segments of the American population.

The disease has been termed:

“A SILENT EPIDEMIC”

Educate parents to be and new parents about ECC and how to prevent it from occurring.

Who is responsible for educating parents?

  • Pediatricians
  • Family Physicians
  • Dentists
  • Dental auxiliaries

All other health care workers

All children should be seen by a dentist before their 1st birthday.

This is the standard of care endorsed by the Canadian and American Dental Associations.

This is what ECC is all about – INFECTION & PAIN!

Dental Decay can begin as soon as the baby teeth begin to erupt into the mouth.

All teeth need to be bathed by saliva to complete their final phase of development – mineralization.

If the teeth are covered with dental plaque (bacteria, cells, sugar from breast milk, formula or juice) the teeth will not mineralize and the infective decay process can begin.

Left untreated, this totally PREVENTABLE disease progresses to the point that toothache and dental abscesses can develop.

Your child may have a toothache but may not be able to tell you.

An unhappy disposition, poor sleep patterns and feeding habits are signs that your child may have a toothache.

Children may suffer from a toothache for so long that they may think the pain is “normal”.

Look into your child’s mouth. If the top front teeth are broken, discolored or spotted, your little one may be suffering.
